Having watch last nights Man Utd v Porto game last night I was angered by the antics of some of Portos players. In particular their young forward Carlos Alberto who decided to throw himself to the floor repeatidly every time someone came within 5 yards of him!

Its something that really winds me up, and something that needs looking at urgently. It has been around for a while I know but he was an absolute disgrace. If they have panels looking at incidents and giving punishments why cany they look at 'divers' and punish them?

Its something that I think they teach young foreign players now-a-days especially South Americans. It was a good result though!

United didn't play well enough its as simple as that - true they had a good goal disallowed but all in all they were beaten by a more skilfull side - It's alright being typically British and claiming the Porto players were cheats - but all in all they showd a lot more skill than Uniteds blood and guts merchants.

Im not saying its an excuse i cant stand United and they were beaten by a more determined side who wanted it more (wouldnt say they were more skillful by the way).

Just saying itsa a disgrace that a FOOTBALLER has to cheat in that way. Ans make no mistake about it, that young lad was a cheatin b**tard who if it were me, would be on crutches this morning. Its out of order

Scholes second goal was not off-side and should have stood.
They should never have got rid of Beckham. What would the result have been if he and Ferdinand had played?

i don't rate beckham as highly as everone else does.

his freekicks. he scored the odd one from. but for a guy who said as a child all i want to do is play football and then to go into the modelling business and ads.

even with beckham they wouldn't have won. it was time for fresh blood and g neville will be the next out

Any team would miss beckham in their team. How canyou say he wasnt that influencial, his crosses created goals he scored 10-12 goals a season which is good for a midfielder and he could play anywhere in midfield. Add to that he was captain for club and country and its not a bad CV as he was playing for the best team in england for 8 years!

i don't rate beckham as highly as everone else does.

i didn't say that he was a bad player. like rooney nobody would know who he was if he didn't score against Arsenal.

no-one would have seen beckham as early as we did if he didn't score the goal form half way.

at madrid he moved posisitions not because he wanted to but because figo is far better than him.

in the papers there was far more about what he did out of football than what he did in it.

event Van Nistle rooy isn't as good as everyone says. he has a lot more chances than any other player and doesn't get a lot of them on target. all his goal are mainly tap ins

Whilst I can't stand cheating in any form, or in any sport, diving in not something new to football.
As far back as I have been watching football, this practice has gone on, in and around the penalty area.
The earliest master of this 'art' was surely Franny Lee.

When the commentator says "so and so, has WON a penalty", it make me sick. In true sport, surely a penalty is conceded, not won.

My opinion, of course.

Van Nistlerooy is one of the top 5 strikers in the world with something like 28 goals in 27 games so dont think hes that overated. Im not saying beckham is the best player in the world, figo is a different player than beckham. Does figo track back into the right back position? Not that often. Figo is a more attacking player so it depends how you play your football as to which one you would have in your side.

Real player all out attack so figo would be the natural choice.

Back to the original point,,,,

I watched the match totally neutral as I couldnt give a monkeys bout Manure but by the end of it I was fuming mad at the display by Porto. What a disgrace! Just a slight clip to the ankles and they were rolling around in "agony" And when Ronaldo was seriously injured, not even a card!! He was just told to get up....

Schole's goal was perfectly legitimate. He was onside...simple as.

Had the pleasure of "mingling" with the Porto players and officials yesterday lunchtime in the foyer of the Midland Hotel. Far from being "foreign cheats" they seemed a decent, pleasant bunch and were quite happy to chat to fans who had travelled over to watch them and pose for photographs.

How about somebody starting a thread about Man U's behaviour at the final whistle under the heading "unsporting b******s"!!
