West returns to Gigg after Reg swap - Bury Times - Friday, 29 September 1995:
NEWLY-INSTALLED Shakers' supremo Stan Ternent has dipped his toe in the transfer market for the first time with the acquisition of Lincoln City midfielder Dean West in a swap deal which takes Kevin Hulme (Reg) to Sincil Bank. Tement, who has been an admirer of West for some time. sees the 22-year-old as a useful addition to his squad that should give the side added balance on the right flank. "I've had my eye on Dean for a while. I feel he's a young lad we can spend some time with and bring on," said the Bury boss. "He's a busy, go-ahead player who works hard. can play on the right and in the centre of the park and scores his share of goals. I'm sure he's the kind of player the supporters will take to." It's not the first time West has brought his boots to Gigg Lane in the hope of playing for the Shakers. He was rejected for a YTS place when Martin Dobson was boss. "I was 16 and had been released by Leeds United on schoolboy forms and had trials with a number of clubs in the north," said West. His return yesterday came as a surprise to the player who hadn't been on the list at Sincil Bank. "The deal came out of the blue but I see it as a good move for me, I'd been at Lincoln a long time and needed a fresh challenge. "It's a step up the ladder. Bury are an ambitious club and I'm looking forward to playing and scoring goals for them." said West.
