Stan looks for new coach - Bury Times - Friday, 22 September 1995:
STAN TERNENT became the 19th post war Bury manager on Monday morning.  Forty-seven year-old Tement was told of his appointment by chairman Terry Robinson and is now be seeking a player-coach.  "I am obviously thrilled and proud to become manager of Bury Football Club," declared the new man. "I didn't know what to expect when the chairman called me in. You never do in this game.  "All the players have given me great support and now we must buckle down to our jobs and start earning success."  Ternent played in the First Division for Burnley and Carlisle before injury ended his career while at Sunderland.  He rose through the coaching ranks at Roker before becoming their assistant manager under Bob Stokoe, He later joined Stokoe at Blackpool and eventually became their boss. There followed stints as assistant manager at Crystal Palace to Steve Coppell; Chelsea, under lan Porterfield; and Bradford City with Trevor Cherry. Most recently, before joining the Shakers, Tement was boss at Hull City.   The appointment came on the back of a disappointing home defeat by Cambridge United and Mr. Robinson explained the thinking behind the decision.  "We wanted to end the uncertainty and speculation and give Stan the opportunity to be his own man," declared the chairman. "He will want to make changes and now he has the freedom to do so. The first thing he wants to do is bring in a player-coach and we have told him to go-ahead. We have been impressed with the way Stan has conducted himself since Mike Walsh left and he has the best interests of this club very much at heart."
