Stans the man for Gigg Lane - Manchester Evening News - Monday, 18 September 1995:
BURY sprang a surprise today by appointing Stan Ternent as manager.  The caretaker boss and former assistant under previous manager Mike Walsh was always the favourite.  But after Saturday's shock home defeat indications were that the Shakers would wait until at least the end of the month before deciding whether to opt for Ternent or any of the other applicants on the 24-strong list which included ex-Preston and Cambridge boss John Beck.  Making the mid-morning announcement Bury chairman Terry Robinson said: "He is the right man for the job its as simple as that. He's totally committed to the club and we are confident he can do a good job." Clearly the Bury board have decided to act quickly believing the on-going speculation was causing terrace unrest and even effecting the team's form.  Ternent whose has widespread managerial experience including spells at Leeds United, Blackpool, Bradford, Crystal Palace, Hull and Chelsea said: "I am delighted to have this opportunity."  Ternent who is not under contract set out a four point aim to stabilise the Gigg Lane club; ensure the players perform to their capabilities; get the supporters behind the team; and make progress up the League table.  He added: "Starting with the Sheffield United game on Wednesday, I want the players to reach their capabilities and enjoy it. I want them to get a bit of a chuckle in their boots."
