Walsh years brought more wins than defeats - Bury Times - Friday, 08 September 1995:
VICTORIES outnumbered defeats during Mike Walsh \s four year, nine month reign as Shakers' manager.  Ninety-nine wins, 63 draws and 90 reverses came from the 252 league, cup and play-off matches which coincidentally started and finished against Devon opposition.   It was back on December 15,1990-a 3-1 home victory over Exeter City - that Walsh made his managerial debut after Sam Ellis's departure to Manchester City.  In between the club were relegated to the basement division but on the plus side were led to the promotion play-offs on three occasions, the third of which, last season, saw the Shakers visit Wembley for the first time in their 110-year history.  Their highest victory during his incumbency was a 6-0 drubbing of Carlisle United in February 1992 while at the other end of the scale two 5-0 hammerings,  both of which came in the last six months, proved to be his worst defeats, at Preston in March and last Saturday's game against Plymouth Argyle, a match destined to be his final one at the helm.   Highlights were the FA Cup third round match against Manchester United at Old Trafford in January 1993 when the Shakers, with several part-time players in the side, put on a fine battling performance before going down 2-0 to Eric Cantona et al and, of course. May's Wembley appearance, although the result may well have hastened his dismissal.
