No Regrets for Mike and no bitterness - Bury Times - Fri 08 September 1995:
DEPOSED Bury boss Mike Walsh spent Tuesday night watching Southport play Altrincham in the Vauxhall Conference but his mind was still at Gigg Lane and the Coca-Cola Cup, writes Chris Bailey.  And no one cheered louder when they heard the result than 39-year-old Walsh.  "I was absolutely thrilled when I was told the score." he admitted. "1 was the first one on the phone to Stan (Ternent) I couldn't be happier for him.   "There was no bitterness surrounding my departure and I wish the club nothing but success. I hope they win every game between now and the end of the season. You can bet I'll be looking for their results first. You don't spend five years of your life working as hard as you can for a club and then just forget about them.  "I had some great times at Gigg Lane and. without wishing to sound sentimental, I couldn't have asked for anymore from the staff or the people working at the club. It will always be special to me."  Walsh has been deluged with sympathetic messages since he left Gigg Lane on Monday morning and aims to get back into the game as soon as possible.   "Football is a magical business to be in," he declared. "When you are winning it is absolutely brilliant and when you lose it's a challenge. There is no better sport to be in.  "I have had loads of phone calls and messages from people including some of the Bury players which is especially nice. Everything happened so quickly on Monday morning that I didn't have time to say goodbye.  "Looking back my only regret is that we didn't win promotion but I think that overall the club is stronger now than it was when I took over and I can take some pride from that.   "I have no regrets and I wouldn't, on reflection, have done anything too differently. You have to stand and fall by your own judgement and that has been the case.   "Hopefully I'll get out to games looking at players for different people and see what transpires from there. I have already had a lot of offers to spend days coaching at clubs I'll just see how it goes."
