Stan in Line for Bury Job - Bolton Evening News - Wed, 06 Sep 1995:
BURY caretaker boss Stan Ternent has declared his hopes of making his acting role permanent. The former Hull and Blackpool boss and Chelsea and Crystal Palace assistant made the perfect start with last night's 2-1 Coca-Cola Cup victory over Chesterfield to earn a money spinning two legged tie with first division Sheffield United. An impressive run of results will get him the vote of major share holder Hugh Eaves despite the growing clamour from the fans for ex-Shakers favourite Sammy Mcllroy to be offered the post Ternent is aware of the popularity of the Gigg Lane job which has already attracted a glut of applications. "There will be no shortage of people wanting to manage a club like this but if I am offered the job I will take it", he affirmed. "The players will decide it though, not me - any manager or coach is only as good as his players. "We set ourselves high standards and we have not been playing as well as we did last season. "But if the players keep working as hard as they did against Chesterfield things will turn out well for us. "The fans can play a big part in making it happen as well and I would say to them that one cheer is worth a million boos."
