Warnock so happy to get off the mark - Bury Times - Tuesday, 05 September 1995:
Plymouth manager Neil Warnock was a happy man after his side's emphatic 5-0 victory that earned them their first league points of the season. "The last time I won a match was with Huddersfield at Wembley and this win was just as important to me," he said. "It's a lovely feeling, we changed one or two things around and they came off. I haven't been able to understand why we haven't hammered teams before, we could have scored goals in every match this season. I feel sorry for Mike Walsh, it just happened to backfire on him today." added Warnock. The Plymouth chief explained that he used Bury's 22 match unbeaten home record, and newspaper comments that Shaun Reid wasn't going to let Ronnie Mauge get a kick, to gee up his players in his pre-match team talk. "I was more pleased that we didn't concede any goals in the second half than how many we scored. I wanted a clean sheet today because we have been horrific in defence." Warnock also had a message for Plymouth supporters who, due to road works, only reached Gigg Lane one minute before kick-off. "After a result like that, they'll have to arrive one minute before kick-off every week," he grinned. "I'm looking forward to a chat with my chairman. I bet he wondered what he'd appointed during the first month of the season." One suspects that Mr. Warnock enjoyed his chat more than Mike Walsh did.
