Fans get what they wanted - Bury Times - Tuesday, 05 September 1995:
Angry fans finally ran out of patience on Saturday. There were some ugly verbal exchanges after Saturday's dismal 0-5 flop. Principal target for the tongue lashing was now departed boss Mike Walsh who wasn't surprised at the reaction of the supporters. "They are entitled to have a go at me. I'm the one who picks the team," he admitted before news of his departure. "It was the most feeble Bury performance since I've been here. We didn't stand up to Plymouth physically. For half an hour it looked like only a matter of time before we scored - we missed a couple of good chances and then fell apart." "We've got to make sure that when we go out on Tuesday we get a positive reaction from the players." Caretaker boss Stan Ternent will be without Ian Hughes for tonight's Coca Cola Cup Second leg tie against Chesterfield. The experienced Trevor Matthewson may come out of the cold after being sidelined for seven months and young David Johnson is again in the squad. While Bury's misery piled up, there was nothing but joy for Plymouth and former Shakers skipper Ronnie Mauge. "Some silly quotes appeared in the press this week about the game and it just helped fire us up," claimed Mauge. "We did our talking on the pitch and we thoroughly deserved our win, Although we've had a bad start we've really been playing well and this kind of victory has been coming." "The manager has kept his faith in us over the first six games and the fans have been right behind us and now we look ready to climb the table." "We feel we are the best side in the Division with the best manager and the best fans. Plymouth is a big club with big ambitions and I aim to fulfil them. It was nice coming back and seeing some of the friends I made here during my time here and I wish Bury well for the rest of the season - except when they come to Home Park."
