Reid on the move? - Bury Times - Tuesday, 17 October 1995:
RUMOURS linking Bury mid-fielder Shaun Reid with a move to Third Division rivals Cambridge have been dismissed as 'speculation' by Bury boss Stan Ternent. A story was carried by a local Cambridge paper at the weekend that United manager Tommy Taylor was interested in taking the midfielder to the Abbey Stadium. The experienced Reid, though, is expected to be in Tement's plans for tonight's Auto Windscreen Shield tie at Scunthorpe United. Fellow midfielder Nick Daws and defender Michael Jackson are added to the squad that earned a point at Fulham at the weekend. Knee injury victim Daws was left out of Saturday's 14 as a precaution and long term absentee Jackson successfully came through an A team game to enter the reckoning. Skipper David Pugh will again be missing through suspension while Lenny Johnrose, Jimmy Mulligan, John Paskin and Andy Woodward are all ruled out as the Shakers hope to make progress in a competition that they reached the Northern semi-final of last season, only to go down to a disappointing 2-1 home defeat by Rochdale. Ternent knows full well the importance the tournament holds for lower division clubs: "We're certainly looking for a good run in this competition," said the Shakers' chief. "The early stages are low key but. We need to progress because success, with a Wembley final at the end, is lucrative for the club," "Last season the players had a taste of the Wembley atmosphere and this competition gives us a realistic chance of returning," added Ternent. Victory at Glanford Park tonight would ensure qualification from Northern Group Five to the second round stage as The Iron and Wigan Athletic drew 1-1 at Springfield Park at the end of last month
