Shakers Stant by their man - Manchester Evening News - Monday, 27 November 1995:
PHIL Stant is going nowhere - and that's official. Bury's 12-goal top scorer turned goal maker of late is being eyed by his former club Cardiff along with Doncaster. He still enjoys cult status at Ninian Park and the lowly Welsh club last week asked the Shakers to name their price for the player. Bury. delighted by 33-year-old Slant's form, value him at £200.000 - three times what they paid Cardiff to bring him to Gigg Lane 11 months ago. Shakers manager Stan Ternent said today: "I won't be selling him. How do you get goal scorer's like him? I know a lot of clubs would like Stant but they are wasting their time." Ternent has been pleased with the all round improvement in Stant's game culminating with the part he played in both Bury goals on Saturday. Transfer talk is an issue Stant never comments on: "All I am interested in is getting three points from as many games as possible. "It doesn't matter to me who scores and I am delighted we are now getting it together at Bury and are nicely placed in seventh position." Nottingham based Stant has a record of a goal every other game throughout his much travelled career since leaving the army.
