Now finish the job! - Bury Times - Tuesday, 07 November 1995:
MANAGER Stan Tement's motivational skills really shouldn't be needed tonight when Bury make a second attempt to see off Reading in their Coca-Cola Cup third round tie at Elm Park. The disappointment of the washed out game two weeks ago, when they held a 2-0 lead, should be stimulus enough for the Shakers as they attempt to overcome their highly-rated First Division hosts and reach the last sixteen of the competition for the first time since the 1987-88 season. The tasty reward for victory is a plum home tie against Southampton and Ternent sees no reason why there shouldn't be a repeat performance from his side. "It'd be nice to finish the job off," said the Bury boss, who looks likely to stand by the side that started the game at Elm Park two weeks ago and has since embarked on a three-game unbeaten league run. "We must just go out with the same attitude as we did two weeks ago and see what happens," Hamstring victim Mark Carter resumed training yesterday and could be added to the squad but definitely out of the reckoning is Dean West who is cup-tied after playing in the first round with Lincoln City. The cut-priced travel and admission charges arranged in the wake of the abandoned match have enticed more Shakers fans to make the trip to Berkshire tonight with four coaches already sure to travel down from Gigg Lane. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
