Stan gives Paul the nod - The Pink - Saturday, 10 February 1996:
BURY boss Stan Ternent is tipping his new loan signing. Paul Edwards, to carry on playing for another 20 years.  "He's slim, keeps himself very fit and is one of those who could go on playing until he's 52", said the obviously impressed Ternent, of quicksilver 32-year-old Edwards.  The left-fullback has a month to impress and if he takes his chance, his wages are fixed and a fee can be arranged with West Brom, he will become the 25th pro on the books at Gigg Lane.  The player he will replace, utility man lan Hughes, is on the transfer list, although he is very much part of Ternent's plans as the Shakers gear up for a two games a week spell, once the big freeze ends.  The manager said: "The one thing against lan is his ability to play in any one of eight positions, and it's still a case of trying to find the right position.  "It's every manager's dream to have someone like him and he will now of course be challenging for a midfield place, where he was doing well before, or even challenging for a position at the centre of defence.  Stuart Bimson, the ex-Macclesfield defender, who before injury had made the number three shirt his own, has struggled to get match fit because reserve games have been hit as badly by the weather as first team fixtures.
