Ternent brings in Recruits - Bolton Evening News - Friday, 08 December 1995:
IN READINESS for the hectic Christmas schedule. Bury boss Stan Ternent is moving to strengthen his squad by taking three players on trial with a view to permanent moves. Experienced former Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers defender, Nicky Reid and Mike Harle. a 23-year-old left back from Millwall, both played for the Reserves at Gigg Lane on Wednesday night in a 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers. They were to be joined by lan Cox, a 24-year-old mid-fielder/striker from Crystal Palace but due to a family bereavement he is unlikely to travel north until next week. However, another possible signing, that of Albanian international Eddie Abazaj, has fallen through after the player walked out on a trial period with the Shakers to join First Division Grimsby Town. Tement was understandably angered by the episode after the club took him in and even arranged a closed-doors friendly game against Blackpool in which the former Benfica midfielder scored the winning goal. "On Monday morning his agent came in to talk to us and said that the player had flu but when I got home it was on teletext that he had signed for Grimsby Town," a disappointed Shakers' chief explained. "If that's the way they conduct their business Grimsby are welcome to him," he added. Reid, who has had spells at Wycombe Wanderers and Woking since leaving West Bromwich Albion two years ago, and Harle could be included in Saturday's squad that travels to Barnet looking to extend a five game unbeaten league run.
Definitely missing for the Underhill clash is Chris Lucketti, who starts a three-match suspension after breaking through the 21 disciplinary point mark.
His absence is likely to see Michael Jackson and Trevor Matthewson combine in the centre of defence now that the latter has shaken off a back injury.
