WHILE their cup conquerors Blyth Spartans were failing to progress in the FA Cup, going down 2-0 at Stockport County, Stan Ternent's Shakers players took the opportunity to make headway into their Christmas shopping on Saturday as elimination earned them a free weekend. However, they were in action behind closed doors last Thursday afternoon and a goal from Albanian trialist Eddie Abazaj gave them a 1-0 victory over Second Division Blackpool at Gigg Lane. Meanwhile there is good news on the injury front with Stuart Bimson (fractured elbow) and Ryan Cross (hamstring) both stepping up training while John Paskin (achilles) is also making progress.
