It's time to take the Bulls by the Horns - Bury Times Fri, 25 August 1995:
BURY boss Mike Walsh has named an unchanged squad for the trip to Hereford tomorrow but has warned that he expects a sharp improvement in form. Injuries rule out Gary Kelly, Michael Jackson and John Paskin. suspension sidelines David Johnson, and Kevin Hulme isn't considered fit enough after just one reserve team game, but Jimmy Mulligan is back in the frame and Walsh has plenty of midfield options if he wishes to exercise them. "We can do better and while I want to field a settled side, I showed after the Northampton game that I'm not going to be afraid to change things around if we do not perform to the standards I expect," declared the manager. "There is a careful balance to be found because it does no good for players to go out afraid to play their natural games because they are scared one bad show will cost them their place in the side. The lads must be relaxed enough to express themselves. I thought that, if anything, we have been a bit uptight in games this season." "Having said that we did well at Chesterfield and showed glimpses of form against Chester. Now we need that first league win under our belts-Hereford, who have adopted a direct style of play this season under Graham Turner, may not be the easiest place to accomplish that feat for they have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season with a win over Barnet and a draw-at Cambridge. They have beaten the Shakers on each of the last four games at Edgar Street. One has to look back to 1983/84 for Bury's last away win over the Bulls. After their trip to Hereford the Shakers are back home on Tuesday when their new floodlights will be switched on for the game against Preston. Shaun Reid will be absent serving a one match ban. Plymouth are the visitors the following Saturday and then on September 5 Chesterfield come to Gigg Lane for the second round Coca-Cola Cup tie. The Shakers lead 1 -0 and the reward for the winners is a two match tie with Dave Bassets Sheffield United. lan Hughes could miss the Chesterfield match having being called into the Wales under 21 squad that meets Moldova on the same night. Goalkeeper Kelly has had a scan on his injured knee which revealed no major problem. He could be back within the next two weeks.
