Walsh hits at ref's decision - Bolton Evening News, 16 August 1995:
BURY boss Mike Walsh today hit out at the sending off of Shaun Reid which marred last night's revenge victory at Chesterfield.  Reid was dismissed three minutes from time for a second rash challenge which was typical of a full-blooded Coca Cola Cup first round, first leg tie. He now faces a one or possibly two-match suspension, adding to Bury's frustration in learning that striker David Johnson has been hit by a further two-match ban following his sending off in the Isle of Man pre-season tournament.   Walsh, who has always avoided publicly criticising referees, blasted the decision to dismiss Reid and expressed concern that competitiveness should not be taken out of the game. "Shaun committed two paltry offences and it has cost him," fumed Walsh.   "He has come here wanting to make a good impression and he's heart-broken. If you cannot be enthusiastic you might as pack up and go home.  "There's no way he deserved to get the second booking. Their player jumped straight back to his feet and their other players didn't want him to be booked.  "We needed a performance after Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Northampton and we gave it. We were competitive, hunted in packs and looked a lot sharper but Shaun's booking overshadows everything for us."   Bury received encouraging news about Gary Kelly's knee injury which kept him out last night A specialist's examination has revealed no serious damage.
