Walsh wields axe for cup trip - Midweek Times, Tues 15 August 1995:
ANGRY Bury boss Mike Walsh will not stand for any more performances like the on* at Northampton on Saturday. The Shakers' manager has reacted to the 4-1 defeat at Northampton by adding midfielder Lenny Johnrose and defender Ryan Cross to the squad that travels to Chesterfield for tonight's Coca Cola Cup first round, first leg tie. Both could play if Walsh decides not to give Saturday's starting eleven another chance and he gave a broad hint that there would be changes when he summarised the loss at Sixfields. "We simply weren't competitive enough against Northampton, " blasted Walsh "The players have been told what 1 thought of the performance and it is no use having a big squad if you are not prepared to use them. "Three minutes of madness cost us dear on Saturday There is nothing you can do about the kind of individual mistakes we made There was nothing positive to take from the game " Walsh may be forced to make an involuntary alteration to his starting line up with keeper Gary Kelly suffering the effects of a kick in the knee sustained as he valiantly tried to prevent Northampton's first goal Lee Bracey stands by.
The second leg of the contest takes place at Gigg Lane on Tuesday September 5 (7:30pm)
Walsh will choose from the following for tonight's game:
Kelly (Bracey), Cross Bimson Lucketti Jackson Woodward, Reid, Rigby, Richardson, Johnrose Mulligan Hughes Stant. Pugh. Carter and Lancaster
