Walsh stands by his beaten men - Bolton Evening News 14 August 1995:
BURY boss Mike Walsh will resist the temptation to make sweeping changes following Saturday's opening day disaster at Northampton. The sloppy Shakers suffered the consequences of three individual errors within three minutes just after the break as they failed to live up to their promotion favourites tag with a 4-1 defeat. But Walsh is ready to give his first day failures another chance, saying: "It was nothing to do with a lack of organisation or fitness. If three people mess up as they did on the day then you suffer the consequences. "Chris Lucketti, Michael Jackson and Andy Woodward all held their hands up for giving the goals away and the game's over after that." But Walsh will not stand for a repeat performance with a strong and experienced 23-man squad to pick from. He added: "It's not the time to start making sweeping changes. But there were a few players who would have considered themselves unfortunate not to have been in the side on Saturday." The position Walsh is likely to give most thought to possible changes for tomorrow night's Coca Cola Cup first round first leg visit to Chesterfield is the defence where he may opt to bring in the dependable lan Hughes.
