This American Baseball idea seems to be taking off. Some baseball teams have an "Hall of Same" and a super sort of "Hall of Fame" They call (all time greats).

It would be easier to class all time greats if time had stopped in 1939. Norman Bullock would be an "all time Great" " Jack Plant" etc - But do we have any now?

What will be the criteria for the Hall of fame - Will it be goals. ie Craig Madden would be in there although some would ague that it should be goals over a few years ie George Jones who consistently hit 20 a season. Should it be appearances. Brian Turner for instance who played loads of times - Will it be players who went on to be famous with other teams ie Colin Bell - Big Nev. John McGrath - Alex Lindsay -
Or players who came to us in their twilight years and played a blinder - ie Stan Pearson - John Connelly - Bobby Collins - Bob Stokoe - Ray Pointer - Ray Parry
I find this subject fascinating

I must get out some old photos I have in some old soccer annuals.

I think there woiuld have to be some sort of qualification for entering the hall of fame e.g. a minimum number of games played.

This would rule out players like Luther Blisset, Sammy Mac, Peter Reid & Andy Gray, who were all excellent players in their time, and though they played for us, it was after their pomp and only for a short time.

Not sure how many games big Nev played for us, but I would suspect not really enough to be a 'true' hall of fame player.

please feel free to forward anything like that to either myself or Gord. The two finalists for each position will be selected by the messageboarders. We will put together an article to introduce it and hopefully we should be able to decide which two should go through to the final. I don't think it is fair to have too harsh a criteria as I feel that there are numerous reasons why players should be selected.
Would it be right to say that John Forrest should be the keeper solely because of the number of appearances made or could Dean Kiely rate a place because of his short but definitely influencial stay at Gigg.
Likewise in midfield..should Dawsy be a definite or does THE GOAL by Tony Rigby warrant his selection.
I hope the debate rages hard and we will see what transpires. Ultimately we will have to make a decision but I am hoping that at each stage there will be clear contenders for each shirt number.

I thought Sammy Mac was good at Bury. Mind you I was young and innocent then - now I'm just innocent.

Certainly got the crowds going in his day, as did Trevor Ross, but for different reasons - "Rossie's gonna get ya". This is probably a different thread but I thought there was something to be said for fading stars playing at smaller clubs - it added that bit of something special to see a celeb every Saturday - Like Ian Wright at Burnley. I s'pose most earn enough to just quit at the top

It should be a minimum of 100 games for the club to get in.
