WHAT IS IT WITH BURY WE GET A PLAYER WHO LOOKS PROMESING AND SELL THEM FOR NEXT TO NOTHIING, FOR EXAMPLE MICHAEL NELSON HE WAS VERY PROMISING AND WHAT DID WE GET FOR HIM BASICALLY NOTHING, ANOTHER ONE IS PADDY KENNY DECENT KEEPER WANTED £1,000,000 FOR HIM ONE YEAR AND THE NEXT YEAR HE WENT FOR £70,000. THIS IS WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN WITH NUGENT OR PORTER OR WHO EVER ELSE IN THE TEAM WHO LOOKS PROMISING THEY WILL GO FOR NEXT TO NOTHING

That's what it's like in lower divisions. Or do you just expect people to come along and give us a few million quid so we don't have to sell?

Clubs further up the league know clubs like Bury and Oldham are skint so they offer the least possible price for a player. We need the cash so we sell them way below their true value. Thats football in the lower divisions these days. Eejits like yer man Abramovich at Chelsea paying monopoly money for players will only help hasten the likes of OAFC going to the wall coz they can't sign players to compete.

Damien Duff £17m????   Do me a favour!

Maurice - not sure I follow your point about Oldham's demise. I think the key point is to keep money in the British game.

In the longer run, I doubt it will do Chelsea much good. Look what happened to Leeds after they spent silly money.

Hi Surrey,

Abramovich will spend millions on players all of whom will be from other PL clubs or Abroad. This in turn will mean that clubs like Oldham and Bury will no longer be able to get reasonable fees for any gems they unearth - £70k for Nelson? (OK so I know he didn't go to a PL club) or Fitz Hall £250k to Southampton. This is how clubs like ours made funds to help keep the clubs running. With this avenue of raising revenue gone it will just hasten the demise of smaller clubs.

I predict we will see a return to the old north south league in the not to distant future. This would take into account the 2nd 3rd and conference. Something has to be done about the way the league is run at the mo and I think this is an option.

Don't understand the logic here. There is no problem with Chelsea buying players from other PL clubs (i.e. Duff, johnson, Bridge) so why lump that in with buying players from abroad.
The bigger issue now is that all the minor clubs like West Ham, Blackburn, Bolton, Birmingham, Southampton, Middlesbro etc. all go out and buy cheap foreign imports to replace any players they have lost. That isn't Abramovoch's fault.

steve_pilko - I agree, that's the point I was trying to make.

What I was trying to get across is that clubs like Chelsea spending millions will lead to your West Ham's, Boro's and Saints going out and looking for players abroad rather than players from clubs like ours in order to compete - and there is nothing wrong with that - but clubs like ours will never again be able to compete at that level and thats bad for English (or any other nationality) football. Will we ever see another club rise like Wimbledon did? I don't think so....without the possibility, the hope that one day your club will make it to the top a small (or in my opinion a large) part of the dream has or will have died.
