After hearing all the recent comments made about the team needing to replace the 'backbone' of the squad,I thought the time was right to mention some of the younger players we have coming through.
I saw most home games last season and quite a lot of the reserve games, where I watched the likes of Simon Whalley,Tom Kennedy,Steve Gunby and some other younger lads.I realise that we might be lacking in defence now after losing Nelson but these lads look more than capable of playing 3rd division football, and to come and fill some of the gaps.
Whalley looked quick down the wing with a good shot on him,and Kennedy looks very comfortable on the ball, with a great left foot. And
Steve Gunby looks a strong midfielder, who has had some experience out on loan. All must be quite well thought of by Andy Preece as I believe he gave them contracts last season whilst still on their YTS'.
I know Whalley made sub a few times last season, but never really got much of chance.Lets hope they all do well this season, and the mangement get the right blend of youth and experience, but we don't know what they are capable of until the get the chance!

Does anybody else agree?

completely!

i would rather see Kennedy 3. than Woodthorpe 28. at left back anyday!

Wasn't Gunby realised because he didn't want to be a footballer?

Nah - That was gary Evans - said he didn't have what it takes - took some guts to admit that when he still had a year left on his contract.

ahh okay.

was it Gunby or Evans who once said if you got to watch Bury Reserves that [insert name here] is worth the admission fee on its own?
