according to BT,

Charnock, Terry Cooke and Ben Thornley are training with us.

Phil Charnock has already been mentioned many times on this board. Terry Cooke is a midfielder from Grimsby. Ben Thornley is of course the Bury-born midfielder from Blackpool.

I see that Brett Angel's move to Linfield has been put on hold for some reason?

He'd do me with a good little un alongside.

Yes Brett Angell at Gigg would be excellent. I know hes getting on a bit but he keeps getting offers for moves so he must be keeping himself fit. Hes a real handful up front.

Blackpool fans seem to be disgusted with Thornleys performances when he was at them but he may have more to prove if he joins his home town club.

Cooke would be a good signing, he was rated highly at both Man City and Man Utd and is a very tricky winger using both feet when hes on form.

Not seen Charnock play for ages but hes got experience under his belt and a lot more than any of the players currently on our books, Preece aside.

Something must be up with Terry Cooke for him to keep slipping down the football ladder like this.

Next big thing at United and City to this.

General fitness? Attitude?

It seems to me he can't be that hungry a player. We need young lads chomping at the bit to make it to the big time.

One minute Cooke is the next Beckham and moved for £1,000,000 and now he 's at Bury. Something wrong. Where was he last? Stoke? Thornley was at Aberdeen not so long ago. Maybe these 3 can get us promotion next year.

Cooke's got to be worth a go in Div 3. Fair point about the attitude but surely anyone training with us at the moment is in the last chance saloon as far as a career in professional football goes. Cooke would do well on the right wing and score double figures.

Terry Cooke providing the ammunition for Brett Angell sounds a good combination to me, but what sort of wages would these people expect

I suspect that reality needs to bite a bit harder within football before we start seeing them signing on for the (still!) cash-strapped Shakers.

Maybe this is more a sign of the times...players can't afford to be as choosy.

Anyway, its likely that a player now baseed in the north west would prefer to find a club in his home area, rather than uproot and/or face long commutes for a years contract.

Besides, playing for Bury does have its good points!!

Blackpool fans were definitely not impressed with Thornley. He was seemed to be unfit when he arrived from Aberdeen on 1st January, and never seemed to get any fitter. He also got injured before the end of the season - hence McMahon released him.

We already have enough players on the books who can't last more than a few games within getting injured - not sure we can afford another one.

If he does sign up for us lets not pre-judge him just coz Blackpool fans had a grumble about him.

I'd like to see Ben here. He was never the same after a career threatening injury after a heinous challenge by a Blackburn Rovers reserve at Gigg. I've watched him since he was playing for Salford Schools in the same team as Ryan Giggs. I'd love to see him pick up his career again and do well for himself!

Thornley's a possibility I would say. Perhaps play him in pre-season games and see how he shapes up fitness-wise. As for Angell, I seem to recall him bad-mouthing us when we got promoted to Div 1 with Stockport. He can whistle.

in the BEN,

Preece says ' our priorities are to replace the bacbone of last years team (Nelson,Billy,Newby) we are lookin especially for centre halfs. we hav a few irons in the fire, nothins final yet though some width would be nice.'

sounds promisin for cooke/thornley!

I think Charnock will replace Stuart. I think we should wait a while to see if they get offers anywhere else and then offer really rubbish contracts along the lines of pay as you play. We'd soon see them raise there game.

Cooke - 10 league goals in 115 games for 8 league clubs.

Thornley - 11 league goals in 173 games for 4 league (including Aberdeen) clubs.

I believe that Brett didn't want to go to Linfield cos he realised they are crap! The Blue Noses are now supposed to be chasing ex-Bury loanee Paul "Son of Kenny" Dalgleish.

I got so bored reading about Beckham and Big Nev's taste in footwear that I went to Cheltenham Town's website, but that's quiet as a mouse, so I've gone back to what we thought about Thonley in the summer.
That's me for the evening, i think. I'll go watch David Blaine in a box or some Americans asleep on E4.
