The Shakers fans team were really unlucky not to take anything away from this encounter with a bruising Yeovil Town side after a brave second-half come-back, and it was only the little Yeovil linesman who ruled out the Shakers fourth goal.
The game was played on an all-weather surface, even though there was a perfect grass pitch right next to it. If wed have played on there, wed have stuffed them because most of our players werent accustomed to playing on astro-turf and the bounce was catching us out a bit.
The first twenty minutes or so saw the Bury fans start brightly enough with the Shakers putting together some good attacking moves, but the final touch was lacking from myself and Gifted. However, our hopes of our first ever 11-a-side victory were smashed by a Yeovil goal. Their player beat the offside trap, and ShakerStu in goal, and the Bury heads instantly went down.
From then on, despite occasional patches of Bury attacking play, Yeovil had control of the first half, breaking through on a few occasions. Inevitably, a second Glovers goal followed, and then a third. The Bury heads were well and truly down.
Half-time arrived, but not before a bit of handbags between John and a bit psycho Yeovil attacker who elbowed him in the jaw! The formation was changed for the second-half with Dave going in net and ShakerStu coming out to play at right back.
It was a more attacking Bury side and the first goal for the Shakers soon arrived a low hard shot in the bottom corner. Yeovil were much less of a threat in the second half, despite having the luxury of being able to bring on a multitude of different substitutes. Handbags were out once again as Jimmy and a Yeovil midfielder started having a go at each other, but that was eventually quelled. A second goal soon followed with Gifted grabbing his first in a Bury shirt. As the Shakers continued to press forward, the defence looked solid and any weak Yeovil attacks were ably dealt with. Sure enough, a Bury equaliser arrived, but this time it was Jimmy who was on target. The Shakers also went on to have a number of chances to finish the game off, with a lobbed shot ricocheting off the crossbar and another shot slamming against the crossbar.
But the fourth Shakers goal did eventually come from Jimmy; he was on target again minutes later, after Gifted had played him through. He slid the ball into the back of the net for the Shakers fourth. About quarter of an hour later, the linesman raised his flag for offside, even though there was no chance that wither Gifted or Jimmy were offside.
With minutes left, and the Shakers gutted after that bloody awful decision, Yeovil knocked in a sucker punch. It was 4-3 after their young striker ran through on goal and slotted in from an acute angle. Devastated, the Shakers pressed on, but just couldnt find that final equalising goal, and when the final whistle was blown, it ended a very tough match for the Shakers, which really we should have won, or at least drawn.
Anyway, thats it for now. I await any corrections below and Im sure there are going to be plenty! Look forward to the next exciting match report coming soon to a message board near you!!!
