....The evening began with a tanned and slim looking Nigel Jemson asking me to move a couple of traffic cones so he could drive right up to the main car park and save a bit of shoe leather. Decided to follow his example too.

The game itself...ALL NAMES AND TIMINGS ARE APPROXIMATE.

First half we began with Harphal Singh and Strong ("Strongy"!) making their debuts. Harphal showed plenty of desire and might have scored, let down by a weak finish and then blazing a good chance over. Strong showed plenty of dominance in the air and was working well alongside a comfortable Unsworth.

Eastwood rarely threatened although Garner was forced into a save from an early header.
Clegg was looking inventive on the right and created some good opportunities, with Harphal nearly connecting with one cross, and another being scrambled off the line.
Bury were generally dictating the proceedings. Harphal set Nugent up for a shot on 36 minutes , but the ball cannoned into a defender.
Nugent then featured in the breakthrough, his determined run to the line, then the ball pulled back into the path of Seddon who drove it emphatically into the bottom corner.

The scond half saw wholesale changes to the team, only Unsworth and Strong staying on. The pattern of play was similar. Bury in control but perhaps not creating as many clear chances as we should. However, Porter in particular looked dangerous and kept the Eastwood defenders busy.
Particularly impressive this half was O'Shaughnessy, both creatively and in tracking back and tackling. On 60 minutes he embarked on a tenacious run and was unlucky to see his shot whistle past the post.
There were a couple of decent calls for a penalty , one for a shove on Porter and another when Preece appeared to be kneed in the back.
From this point the Boss seemed to be getting increasingly vocal and the ref gave him an unecessary lecture. With his blood still seemingly boiling, Preece then drove a strong shot over from the edge of the box.
The Shakers should have had another when Whaley(MUNGO????) created an excellent opening but shot well wide. However, a secong goal was delivered by Charnock on 89 minutes, driving in from the 6 yard line after Whaley had a shot parried and the Manager had fed the ball back .

Another comfortable win, but perhaps we do need one final test against harder opposition before the trip to the Vetch.

MOM : Clegg 1st half , Shaughny 2nd half.

Can't argue with any of that. I would only add:
* Doesn't Scott Huckerby look just like his brother?
* One highlight for me was seeing the impressive height on the lucozade bottle which narrowly missed O'Shaughnessy as he was being treated for a head injury.
*Speaking of which, was it really necessary to use nearly a whole pot of vaseline to treat a head injury of an OPPOSITION player. Surely we need to cut back on such profligacy?
*My daughter reckons Colin Woodthorpe looks just like Danny out of Grease
I enjoyed the game, but we do need a good stretch now.

Did Thornley feature at all or have we dumped him? Is he still turning up for training Gordon?

One of the good things about these games is that you can hear all the chat between the players. The best one I heard was that Simon Whaley's nickname is Mungo!

Shakers4eva - no there was no sign of Thornley. This was the line-up:

Garner, Barrass, Woodthorpe, Duxbury, Unsworth, Strong, Connell, Nugent, Clegg, Seddon, Singh
Subs: Whaley, Porter, Preece, Solley, Gunby, O'Shaughnessy, Charnock, Kennedy, Forrest

All the subs came on at half time. Only Unsworth and Strong stayed on for 90 minutes.

I presumed the name was a response to a perceived resemblance to Mungo Jerry. Better than "Strongy" anyway.

I think we can assume that Thornley won't be offered a deal then. Also if Unsworth and Strong played the full 90 minutes it would suggest that the triallist from Raith, Paul Browne, isn't going to be taken on. The introduction of Singh, Strong and Charnock plus a few younger lads gives us a fairly healthy looking squad now.

Has Charnock been offered a contract ????

I wasn't too impressed with him last night. Didn't get involved enough and with Clegg, Dux, Connell, Singh, Shaunny all performing last night and Dunfield to come back do we need him??
