Have any of you been around Heap Bridge roundabout recently? Are my eyes deceiving me, or are there REALLY Manchester City club crests displayed on a couple of Bury MBC-owned signposts in very prominent positions there? And I thought Bury Council was sponsoring BURY F.C.!
Ans walking around Rammy the other day while visiting family up north I saw loads of Bury Times posters for a Rammy Utd game.
Dont recall ever seeing any around Bury advertizing OUR CLUB.
We've been here before haven't we? What you could do is organize a petition to boycott the Council in protest at their disgraceful actions. Then they'd withdraw their sponsorship. But at least we wouldn't have to put up with a Club Sponsor who advertised other clubs

Annoying, innit? Still, at least there's a logic to a Rammy match being advertised in Rammy I suppose...what I object to is that Man City - one of Bury's competitors, if not on the pitch at the moment, then at least in terms of potential support - gets publicity on a council-owned site in what is a very prominent place, perhaps many people's main "gateway" into Bury. Maybe somebody from the council will come to the FB Forum on the 15th Jan and we can have a full and frank discussion!
Are you SURE its an MCFC badge and not something similar...e.g. Greater Manchester County?

Well, that's just it, can't be 100% certain cos I'm always moving when I'm at that roundabout, perhaps next time I get in a traffic jam there I'll be able to verify this...but it DOES look very like Man City to me...I mean unless Greater Manchester have adopted a bluddy big eagle as their heraldic beast of choice, of course...

You could call Bury MBC, but alas it did find £50k for the club, which like it or not, the club is a business. Face it advertising with Bury, what will it do to swell the coffers of the MBC? Now MCFC will have to pay for that advert, that swells (more like a small gasp from an asthmatic ant) the coffers of the council and if it means they can sponsor Bury some more why not.
Sad to say though more people who live in Bury probably go watch city than the Shakers. :(
Heap Bridge is on the boundary between Bury and Heywood.
Heywood lies within the borough of Rochdale, which has 2 'eagles' on it's crest.
Are you sure it's not the Rochdale crest?
On the Rochdale borough crest the 'eagles' are standing either side of the shield.

Ta for the replies, but you should go and have a look for yourselves if you get a chance, they do look very like MCFC crests to me! I should point out that these have not been put here at the behest of MCFC, but by a private company whose bosses presumably support City. I'm not sure how it works exactly, but many of you will have noticed new (or new-ish) signs around the Bury Metro area, usually saying things like "welcome to Bury" or "you are now leaving Prestwich Village, thank you for not running anyone over"...anyway, beneath these signs some companies have been allowed to place adverts, for which the council presumably receives a payment. It just so happens that the ones at Heap Bridge roundabout are for Moorgate Kitchens, which is fine by me, but couldn't the council have told them "Sorry, no club crests, we actually sponsor Bury you know!"
As things stand, the drivers of tens of thousands of vehicles from all parts of the U.K. will now have their first sight of Bury accompanied by a Man City badge. I just think it's a shame, that's all; and I really do intend to take this up with the Council. Sure, we're all very grateful for the fifty grand sponsorship, and I hope that it continues in future, but couldn't they have been a bit more sensitive? Would Manchester City Council be just as happy to have an advert for a company emblazoned with BFC crests, just a mile or so from the new stadium? (No, I don't know either, but I intend to find out!...)

Thanks Paul, at least you have confirmed that I wasn't seeing things! Dunno if Moorgate are MCFC sponsors or just fans...whichever they are I would guess that getting their name AND a couple of City logos on a council advertisement hoarding in Bury sounds like a great idea to them, bet they can hardly believe they've been allowed to do it! Then again this is BURY COUNCIL we're talking about here, and money seems to have taken on much more importance than principles just lately...
