For the 621 who turned up to Gigg Lane it was a real treat, passing moving, goals, and stuffing OAFC (albeit what looked like a reserve side!).

Starting Line Up : Garner, Barass, Unsworth, Woodthorpe, Kennedy, Whaley, Duxbury, Connell, Nugent, Preece and Porter up front.

A few groans were heard around the ground when the managers name was read out but I thought the gaffer had an outstanding game, great first touch bringing others into play, not least Chris Porter, who latched onto most of the headers knocked onto him.

The score was 5-0, but in truth it could really have been 10, although Oldham, who played on Monday night as well, played some neat football without really threatening the Bury goal apart from one instance midway through the 1st half when the Bury defence looked a little stretched after a break down in attack. After somehow managing to take the ball what seemed like a full yard off the pitch right in front of the South Stand, Oldham's No.10, darted past the onrushing Whaley and Duxbury before steaming past a stranded Matty Barass, confused at the linesmans refusal to give the throw in. After running to the edge of the box, he seemed need only place the ball into the net, with no real challenge from the Bury defence, but Garner, now 5 clean sheets, palmed away the effort for a corner. Garner looks to have really improved, shouting commanding his area, good saves and blocks, and intelligent passes out to wide men after pass backs or from his hands.

The passing was crisp from Bury on a lovely Gigg Lane pitch, and although the final ball was lacking in key situations early on, shots still rained in with frequent regularity.

Preecey missed by inches on a couple of occasions and Porter was winning plenty of headers in and around the area, just missing the target though. A cross from young Whaley found the onrushing Nugent but the ball arrived just behind him, and from just inside the six yard box, Nooge scooped his finish over the bar.

Then came the break through, another cross from Whaley on the right found Porter for a header. As the ball headed downwards towards the goalkeepers hands, the defender marking Porter seemed to handle the ball. The referee paused before giving the penalty, but Porter stepped up and put the spot kick away with ease for his 2nd goal of pre-season.

Half time brought changes, the new line up Garner, Connell, Unsworth, Woodthorpe, Joy, Nugent, O'Shaugnessy, Trialist (was it that Browne guy who played at the back against Raccy Boro?), Clegg, Preece and Porter.

Within 10 mins of the 2nd half, Porter had grabbed his hat-trick. Two well finished headers, one created by Clegg, the other by Nugent, both from a right wing cross. He could've had a fourth moments later but chose to pass on to Nooge after a good run into the box, resulting in a corner after Nooge blasted his shot at the keeper.

Ian Joy looked solid at left back, good accurate passer of the ball, seems to have settled in quite nicely, like to see him sign permantly.

Martyn Forrest came on for hat-trick hero Chris Porter and slotted into midfield, Shaugnny moving to right mid, Nooge going upfront with Preece.

To me, I think Shaugnny and Fozzie have been out on the booze too much over the summer, they look just half a yard off the pace, could explain why they haven't featured that much so far, that must've been Shaugnny's first warm up game? I'm sure they will come on soon, but they will have a tough time of it, Connell and Duxbury seemed to have staked there claim for the midfield berth and with Dunfield and plenty of youngsters breathing down there necks i just hope we don't have another couple of 'Borley's' on our hands.

Andy Leeson came on to replace Connell at right back and on came Colin Kazim-Richards and Daniel Douglas-Pringle, both comfortable on the ball and with bags of pace. Kazim-Richards started off the move that led to Preecey's goal, and well taken it was too.

After recieving the ball from midfield and taking on one player, he passed to an advanced George Clegg. In this instance, Preece ran around Clegg leaving the Oldham defence bemused. Clegg continued to run the play, back heeling to the on rushing Preece, who stroked home the ball, perfectly into the right hand corner, something he had been trying to do all night.

Clegg finished it all off with a diving header at the back post to complete the scoring.

All in all, that's 15 goals so far in pre-season with no goals conceded, they may not have been the best opposition but a win is a win as far as I am concerned. Confidence is at a high, think we will more than match most teams this season, roll on Aug 9th!

Wasn't it great to see decent crosses coming in and strikers winning the ball in the air. You stay at homes missed a treat.
By the way it was Charnock, not Browne, and wasn't it Ap rounding off the scoring after Clegg not the other way round. You were probably delirious with the super football by then Uni! I know I was.
