I decided to make the 50 mile round trip from Preston and bring my 11 year old nephew to attempt to introduce another much needed supporter. We arrive to pay at the main stand and he is told he cannot bring in the plastic bottle of pop he has brought with him. We sit down surrounded by people with plastic bottles. He wants a hot dog at half time £ 2.50 I pay ! :( get real catering! He probably will not being coming again and I am beginning to think twice after 40 years of loyal support ! What do you have to say to my comments new Chairman ?

The answer you are looking for is for the new chairman to lower catering prices. However I believe it is looked after by an outside company so he may not be able to do so. In the short run why not try eating before you leave for the football or maybe when you return, alternatively make some sandwiches, unless they are plastic bottle sandwiches you wil be okay, instead of plastic bottles take cartons. I feel these options are much better than threatening to remove your support from the club. It would be rather petty to do this over a hot dog and a bottle of pop.

Er...no.
The stewards reaction was wrong.
The stewards at Gigg are , on the whole, in need of re-education. A juvenile with a pop bottle poses no threat whatsoever to anyone.

the point about the catering is valid wills, there's making a profit and taking the p***, i'd be surprised if those pies cost them more than 50p and that's including the cost's of lectric and the girls they probably pay pnuts to, the likes of you and me will go anyway, people who are just trying it will probably think sod this i'm not coming here again. i don't know how long the club is tied to a contract with them, but i think when it expires, other options should be considered.

I can sympathise with Preston, but this happens at other grounds as well. I remember going to N'hampton away, first game of season following the Wembley play off final. Took my then 5 year old. Went to get a coke at half time at the kiosk. Had to buy a big bottle (fair enough), they threw away the plastic top. I asked for it, told them that size bottle would last him a week.) They wouldn't, told me it was a safety hazard, he could throw the bottle. I argued, I went ballistic, policeman came over, I went ballistic with him, eventually we went to our seats minus the top. He had a swig of the coke, put it down. Fortunately I picked it up a few minutes later - a wasp still alive had flown in, and trying to get out of the bottle. Can you imagine if my lad had drunk that? Cue going ballistic again at the same copper. And all this after that same copper was at the entrance to the turnstile before game started, and confiscated his Wembley flag wouldn't let him take it in, a safety hazard. This was a 5 year old here. A bit lengthy this reply Preston, sorry, but it happens - pathetic.

There must be plenty of profit in it - did you see the car belonging to the guy that runs it???

Very nice BMW convertible apparently.

It's just the same at every ground - an absolute rip-off. They have a captive market and can charge whatever they like.

The club should definitely look at doing it themselves and making the profits for the us rather than some catering firm.

Can't be that difficult to get Hollands to deliver a few hundred pies on a Saturday morning can it......

Lets get it sorted!!

Stewards at Gigg are anoying! I was travelling to the game, with no colours on, without my season ticket, I thought they wouldn't let me into the South Stand (They did) but it shouldn't even cross my mind!

Last season i had a comlimentry ticket for the Main Stand - they wouldn't let my mate transfer to the South Stand to sit with me!

Lets have a word with em!

Perhaps this issue can be raised at the meeting on Thursday?

I doubt Big Wills I will ever give up on supporting Bury. The point I was making was choice. I should be able to buy food at sensible prices if I so wish. Stewards should be better trained and should really consider who they are enforcing their versions of the rules on. If my nephew had been large and rough looking I bet his plastic bottle of pop would have made it into the main stand. It would be nice to hear the reasons for the pathetic state of catering facilities at the ground from the management of the club. :(

KEEP MOANING, KEEP BRINGING UP THE SUBJECTS AND HOPEFULLY
THE CLUB WILL TRY TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

At £1.20 for a coffee, the sooner these profits are put back into the club( where they should be going now) the better!

There are plenty of people who bring their own food and drinks with them, at least there are in the South Stand.

The catering franchise used to bring in around four grand a year to the club but I can't see why our catering manageress doesn't take charge of it and make the club some cash.

PS - If you were large and evil looking the stewards at Gigg would run a bloody mile. They only pick on little kids...I know it's a thankless task - I did it for four years when we had "The Cage" for the away fans in the main stand but there seems to be no common sense applied these days.

Apparently, a while ago Stadia Catering spent a lot of money on bringing the catering facilities upto scratch i.e. when the new stands were built i think. It cost them a lot of money and you have to remember that they are only open about 2hours and for roughly 25ish games, so they have to charge large prices to recoup the capital which they outlayed which the club couldn't afford at the time. The no bottles thing is a joke, as i used to bring them no problem only a year ago, but it is probably an arrangement the stadium catering company have with the club to up its profits or possibly all this health and safety rubbish thats the norm these days.

I have acheived my objective by getting the issue of catering discussed. I cannot attend the Thursday night meeting ( work ) but I hope some brave soul will take up the baton and also ask when we * poor people * may get an alcoholic drink as well as sensible catering. Thanks. :D

I was pleased to see that the question of catering and alcohol was raised at Thursdays meeting. Thanks to whoever asked the questions. :D

I was told that coins could be pressed into bottle tops and the resulting device could be thrown at players. However, it does appear that this is an FA directive (to remove bottle tops, not to throw them!)
To be fair to the stewards, which is not something that I have often said, they do need to be consistent and apply the rule in the same way to everyone. Bottles do get passed around.
What I do find crazy is that small bottles of pop are considered a hazard but large metal flasks full of liquid are deemed OK!
I shall continue to bring mine until told otherwise.
