I've been given some music CD's that can only be played on DVD or on a computer, now I have Windows Media Player & nothing is coming through, they play on the DVD no problem. Can someone .. anyone.. please give me or send me via pm or email (quote Bury in subject as my junk filter is on high, not that it stops unsavoury posts getting through  ) an idiot's guide as what to do next :?

Ah yes I'm an internet only business.
Just hoping everyone doesn't prefer mp3's or it will be bad news for business!!

St Ives is terrific though at this time of year absolute nightmare with traffic.

Very impressed ...

I only buy CD's normally, but have a vast collection of albums & singles. As you can tell by my plea for help, not had mp3's before

Many happy holidays in Cornwall  Sennon Cove aahhhh 8)

Actually there are a lot of tracks/albums not on CD so it's inevitable that mp3's etc. are going to be around for that type of stuff and I don't see a problem.

If you ever have any early Cd Singles or any 7"/12" rarities for clearing out then feel free to contact me. I pay quite good prices of course!! :)

We stayed at a cottage in Sennen Cove many years ago and stayed only one night as it contained some friendly mice. Not been keen to go there since for some reason

I'll bear that in mind, next time I'm rummaging about in the loft, I must admit very rarely play the singles.

Don't start me off on mice, Duncan's already threatened me with the RSPCA

I could be completely wrong but you may need to get an additional CODEC to allow Windows Media Player to play MP3s. All versions will play ordinary CDs and .WMA files but not all versions play MP3.

Go to the Windows Media Player information site and it should tell you all about it.

Paula,

If you want to play MP3's Media player can be a total arse. Best bet by far is to download Winamp from www.download.com and use that.

You don't have to configure anything, and the EQ and other options are much better.

The latest windows media player (version 9), can play owt (MP3, DiVX, VCD, SVCD, DVD)

Its only personal preference, but I prefer WMP to winamp, as its quicker for setting up playlists.

Frogtop.

Agree, but Media Player 9 is quite happy to kick off about 'illegal' MP3's and starts trying to connect to the net to tell Microsoft what a naughty boy you are. Allegedly.

you could get a cd burner with nero software and burn your mp3's on to a cd in a format that will work on (nearly) all cd players. Hurrah!

They're quite cheap nowadays too...

I've downloaded this version & it's now playing .. but will there be a problem if I download the others too to see which is best? bear in mind I'll probably only play, not copy .... also not sure if I should open file or save to computer , confusing or what :?

Ish

Paula

No problem with downloading other media playing programmes, they'll just prompt you to choose them as the default for all media playing. You can change which programme to use as a default for a certain type of file at any point in the future.

Go for save to computer too. You can specify where to save to - although the location aotomatically suggested will probably be perfectly acceptible.
