View Full Version : Very impressed with Duxbury

I wasn't too excited at the news of his arrival, but watched him play first half at Raccy.
This is the guy we have needed for ages, he influences and makes things happen, shouts instructions to others. Picks the ball up in front of defence, shouts and plays one /two's with Connell ( who was excellent in midfield, very classy finish one on one with keeper...the sort Newby could never manage). Duxbury looks very fit, carries no weight at all, very competitive. a good signing.
Chris Porter showed lots of promise and Gaz Seddon busy, got lots of shots in at goal, especially second half, good to see a greedy striker confident to have a go..
Good second half cameos from Foz, Gunby ( he is well built lad with lots of skill, would like to see more) Simon Whaley is exceptional, lovely balance, scored header from xcelent move, Tom Kennedy too looked up to the job at left back, the family position.
And hey guess what, we played the ball on the floor for the most part, all players looked chipper, a bit disappointed with Terry Cooke.......but..... Lawse must be a long way out of favour, nowhere in sight.
Having been depressed all summer so far..I am a lot happier, things are looking up a bit.
Working away all week so can't get to Leigh. Come on City...

PS spoke to Shaughnny who seemed down in the dumps and Dunners who said his shoulder was fine.....
:D :o

My memory tells me Newby scored MANY one on ones. They have slipped out of many peoples memories having seen him miss a few as well. Have to be in the right place at the right time to get the chance in the first place though.

I agree about Connell and Duxbury but i thought Cooke looked excellent when he had the ball and Forrests play overall was an utter disgrace to proffesional football.

BIGGEST Plus point was the return of the excellent Gareth Seddon. Really impressed , welcome back!!!!!!!! :D

Agree with Jon, Cooke could only do something when he had the ball and when he did have it he made their players back off repeatedly.

Forrest spent most of his time blaming other players for the bad passes he made.

Duxbury ran the show though, great captain as well!

Y3k Jon........you talk complete bolox at times and afr too subjective for a website editor.
Newby scored very few 1 0n 1s. The player is unable to actually strike a ball properly, which is major defect in a professional player; yes he has pace and causes problems, but he cannot strike the thing. We wont start a debate about his heading shall we?
Forrest played well. Prominent in the passing movement which led to Whaleys goal, and several other moves down the right hand side notably with Matt Barrass and how glad am I to see him playing again.

Utter disgarce can only be applied to you using the term about one of our players. And no I am not related, but do have the same surname.

Good start to pre season though!

To label one of our own players a disgrace to professional football after playing the second half of a comfortable 4-0 stroll seems just a tad harsh.

This afternoon was a decent performance, an easy win, and to me nobody stood out as being a disgrace or even having a bad game. And if they did well this was a game to shake away two months of cobwebs. Give them a break for christ's sake!

Changing the subject, I'd never seen Jody Banim before. When Radcliffe took the field I laughed at one of their players who's physical appearance looked the very opposite of a footballer. How wrong I was, must be that low centre of gravity.

All in all a decent win in front of the new chairman, a few drinks in the sunshine for the fans and a bit of cash for Boro, everyone's a winner. Except Martyn Forrest apparently.

Y3KJon is me posting my opinion. Y3K or Y3K_Admin is posting a neutral opinion. I'm a fan, not a member of the board.

Newbys one on ones versus the goalkeeper goals. Peterborough (h), Colchester (a), Wrexham (a x2), Boston (a), Leigh RMI (a). Thats SIX goals off the top of my memory! All class finished when the only player left to deal with was the keeper.

Forrests performances OUTSIDE the club in the past few weeks show why hes on the transfer list and why he was so poor today.

I wasnt the only one to notice Forrests performance, a few blokes in front agreed and heard a few comments on the way out. He gave away the ball far too many times and looked noticeably unfit. Granted, its the first game and the pre-season will sort these things out but from what i saw today hes got much more work to do than the rest of them.

Seen Banim plenty of times, scored LOTS of goals for Radcliffe but can get a bit cocky at times and miss the final pass though. He'll score loads again this season for Boro though.

was not impressed with cooke or jones (new centre back)

very impressed with Duxbury, had the look and style of sami hyypia. i thought he was a bid podgy tho!

no charnock or thornley, quite disappointed. overall a very good win with good performances (i dint think forrest played too bad) and jody banim is very very over rated. i had to laugh at his 'structure'. lol!!!

Wouldn't call him podgy ShakerStu, unless hes put on a bit since the end of the season. He was always in top shape for us.

Sami Hyypia? Never thought of Dux like that before!

What position did he play for you?

Thought Duxbury played well considering 1st game with the team. should prove valuable asset to club and a good captain. Seddon looked good up front with plenty chances being created by him. Kennedy at left back was another plus, thought Cooke made a decent effort.
What I enjoyed apart from the victory was seeing a game of football without risking a neck injury. Keep it up Bury..looks good..hope it stays the same against better opposition.
What has happened to Garner though...he was shouting his head off all game, he can speak then..keep that up too and defence won't be so gittery in front of you.

maybe it was just the shirt then, he played defensive midfielder and played it to a tee!
finally we have someone who can lead by example and grab a game by the scruf of the neck!

I WILL REMEMBER NEWBY FOR MISSING A LOT MORE CHANCES THAN HE SCORED. WAS A GREAT FINISH AGAINST FULHAM THO BUT THE LAW OF AVERAGES SAYS U HAVE TO GET 1 IN SOME TIME. PERSONALLY GLAD TO SEE THE BACK OF HIM MAYBE LETHAL WILL GET A GAME NOW. NOWERE TO BE SEEN AT BORO THO. HE IS STILL THE BEST FINISHER ON THE BOOKS BUT WAS PLEASED TO SEE SEDDON BACK, STILL NOT SURE ABOUT PORTER THO.
